Comité Filantrópico de Acuarela

The Comité was founded 1994 from members of the social society Club Náutico de Acuarela and consist of approximately 16 volunteers. The organisation support local village schools at the plateau of La Mesa de los Santos, a rural region in the county of Santander in Colombia. The region experiences a very dry climate, making it difficult to cultivate. The Comité selects each year a project for realisation at one specific village school. Often there is need for some infrastructural improvements but the Comité also provides support in improving the learning experience. In a project of 2010 a school got a new gardening area that allowed the children to cultivate own vegetables as part of their education.

Donations through the sales of the calendar enabled the Comité for instance to equip one school with a computer room that is used by the entire village, to build a small playground or to support two deaf siblings in buying appropriate hearing aid.

Apart from that the organisation provides health check-ups that include vaccinations and dental hygiene. Furthermore, they organise a meal service at the school and organise various day trips. This allows the children to visit places within the county of Santander where the children otherwise would have not access to such as a visit at the regional metropolis football club.
